Making of "WORLDS AWAY #1" - The Covers
Welcome to the first installment of THE MAKING OF WORLDS AWAY! Before we get started, please consider subscribing and/or sharing WORDS AWAYπ¬π - itβll help us grow and continue making comics in the future!
The cover of a comic book is arguably the most important part of the marketing of a comic book. Itβs literally the first thing that the reader will see when they consider picking it up. When creating the cover for Worlds Away #1, I asked Christian, the artist, to create something that was influenced by stories that inspired Worlds Away: God of War and The Last of Us. Hereβs all three:
I loved the layout for the cover but while it was a great layout, it didnβt capture enough of the βactionβ that Worlds Away has so much of. Thanks to Christian we were able to capture it when he sent me his idea for the cover β something that was more βbadass.β And Iβm thankful he did because it eventually morphed into this:
With the cover finally nailed down, we sent it to a couple of colorists including the series colorist, Luana Cristini. I loved each of the following color for the covers and it took a few days to settle upon the βrightβ one. Here are 3 covers that didnβt quite make the cut (#1 by AHG colors, #2-3 by Luana Cristini)
After discussing it with the team (Christian, Luana, Devin, and Gabriel) we finally decided on the main cover that you all have been seeing! Definitely all were worthy of being the final, but Iβm truly happy with the one we decided upon:
It was a lot of work just for the FIRST cover but, like I said, Iβm glad that we were able nail this one down. I cannot thank the team enough for all of the hard work and input that went into the decision. And thank all of you for taking the time to take a look!
If you dug this behind-the-scenes look at WORLDS AWAY, please consider subscribing to WORDS AWAY if you havenβt and sharing! It would mean the world to us and would help this comic and project grow! Until next timeβ¦
Peace and much love,
Damien
